The goals of the campaign are to  promote the adoption of best practices, tools and solutions, foster e-Leadership and ICT professionalism and facilitate the mobilisation of stakeholders and public authorities.

National policy/ strategy related to eSkills

The Digital Malta Strategy issued in 2014 identifies Human Capital as one of the six pillars for policy action. The Strategy recognises the challenges of aligning eSkills supply with demand, and addresses crucial enablers including the development of a high quality specialised skills base and an emphasis on increasing female participation. The strategy prescribes actions, in three distinct areas; building capacity and skills, strengthening the workforce, and promoting the growth of high quality eSkills education and training.

The implementation of the Digital Malta Strategy is recognised as requiring a multi stakeholder approach. Malta is committed to build on its successful multi stakeholder approach; continuing to support eSkills stakeholder engagement. In 2014 the eSkills Alliance transitioned into a purpose foundation, giving it more independence, strength and agility. The eSkills Malta Foundation brings together the key institutional stakeholders in Education, Industry, and the broader digital society to strengthen the coherence and complementarity of eSkills related actions aimed at different sectors.

National initiatives related to eSkills

The supply ICT practitioners in Malta's economy remains a critical factor, both within the local ICT industry as well as other industries, particularly the iGaming industry and the financial sector where ICT practitioners provide a substantial proportion of the Human Capital. Existing initiatives to encourage the growth of demand oriented skills are continuously adapted to reflect industry requirements. The ‘Get Qualified' incentive scheme, aimed primarily at existing practitioners, and the various graduate and post-graduate scholarship opportunities have enabled multiple professional pathways and contributed to the growth of a local pool of highly qualified resources. New initiatives in 2014 include the Malta Information Technology Agency's Innovation Hub supported by HP, IBM, Microsoft and SAP through various technology access programmes. This ICT-themed Hub complements the innovation and entrepreneurship facilities offered by the University of Malta and the Microsoft Innovation Centre.

At the formative, compulsory education levels, embedding digital technologies and IT applications within the national curriculum is strengthening the general adaptation of the educational experience to the digital age. The introduction of tablets as personal learning devices, together with the introduction of e-content to enhance personalised learning opportunities is a key initiative directed at successful vocational and academic achievement and the consequent medium term growth in ICT oriented career choices.
